Lightning Mike

The Crew Brief is now over, and a 1500 word production report handed-in.

This crew project was a strange brief, and I think everyone from our second year had very unique experiences with it. Some people were stacked up with work, having no time spare for their own projects. I definitely wish I’d got more involved with what I was given, particularly since I couldn’t of asked for a better project.

Below are a few stills and a clip of test animation I did for Jacob’s Lightning Mike character. I actually like this rig a lot, I found it really easy to work with. I think I will ask Jacob if I’m allowed use it in the future (just for animation practice).

Lightning Mike 1

I noticed Jacob’s been setting up his web portfolio, which is looking awesome at the minute (even though it’s not finished yet, at the time of writing). Make sure you check out his illustrations.

Lightning Mike 2

I had really hoped to render out with textures, but my computer almost exploded. I might replace the play blast video with a rendered version when I get a chance, because he is missing his essential  moustache. Play blast version is below.

This is awesome Roy :O Didn’t know you actually did anything with him in the end. The rig is yours to use as you see fit (even though there’s so much wrong with it still… btw if you just convert the textures to png then I have a feeling they’ll render much quicker. I was just feeling out the whole file format issues at that point leading to pretty spakky file sizes.)

Anyway keep it up, digging the website (Y) will definitely link you when I get mine done.

Haha yeah sorry I didn’t let you know. So much time had past since you gave me the rig, I was too embarrassed by how little I’d done!

Wicked, if I use it, I’ll give credit. When I do, I’ll render it properly too.

Get that site rolling! :D

Was this rig based in any way based on our lightning Mike? or is it simply a reference to Mr Tyson. The physique does have an uncanny resemblance to Mr Gillam.

  • About

Just graduated from a BA Digital Animation Degree and currently spending my evenings generating content to put into a animation and game design portfolio.

I currently work full-time making colour separations for a screen printing studio in sunny Cornwall.

A job in games is hopefully next on the cards.
